The Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County have announced the unfortunate postponement of the annual Big Spring Clean event for 2025.
This decision is due to the start of a significant expansion project at Archuleta County Landfill, including the construction of a new cell, which will impact on the facility’s working capacity.
The landfill expansion project involves excavation of approximately 172,550 cubic yards of earthen material, including an estimated 92,000 cubic yards of previously disposed waste. This material must be relocated to the active cell, temporarily reducing the landfill’s capacity for refuse disposal and making the hosting of the Big Spring Clean event impractical.
“We understand the importance of the Big Spring Clean event to our community and regret any inconvenience this postponement may cause,” said Mike Torres, Archuleta County Public Works Director. “This expansion is crucial for the long-term sustainability of our landfill and our ability to serve the community effectively.”
Both the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County staff are committed to resuming the Big Spring Clean event in the spring of 2026. Plans are already underway to enhance the event, ensuring it is even more impactful and beneficial to the area.
The Town and the County wish to thank the community for their continued commitment to keeping our County clean for both residents and visitors alike.
