Moving into the new year with renewed energy to: Make Friends, Grow in Spirit, Do Good – our current motto for building beloved community, the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship has added Action Sunday! on each 4th Sunday of the month. This Sunday, February 23rd, we will gather to hear from our representative to Pagosa Outreach Connection (POC), Jean Smith.
The UU Fellowship has been involved with Pagosa Outreach Connection for many years and we are grateful to Ms. Smith for her dedication to this local program. The Community United Methodist Church’s Facebook page offers the following information about this long-standing organization: “POC is a collaborative multi-sector group of concerned citizens including non-profit, business, faith based and governmental agencies who gather weekly to screen, advocate and provide financial assistance to residents in need…. The goal of POC is to assist an individual and/or family in moving forward toward greater self-sufficiency and to alleviate an immediate financial hardship or financial crisis.”
We invite you to come learn a bit about POC’s work in the community.
As part of this local focus on ‘doing good’, we will have an opportunity to explore ways to connect and live out our values in the wider world. The non-profit organization, 5Calls.org can help people connect to their members of Congress easily by providing contact phone numbers, issues and scripts of what to say. We gather to share tools for advocacy and get creative with a craft project.
The programs each Sunday begin at 10:30am. Find us in Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza 301 N. Pagosa Blvd. on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak. For more information about the Fellowship, please see the website pagosauu.org and find our current newsletter.
In addition to our regular programming, we offer in-person Meditation Practice held each Sunday starting at 9:00am. Our next Dharma talk and practice is this week, the 23rd of February. Dan Dempster, an authorized Dharma teacher and certified meditation instructor states, “Buddhist meditation practice will delve into the world of extraordinary beauty that shimmers just beneath the surface of our apparently mundane and fearful existence. With guidance and practice, learning to recognize the impermanence and interdependence of our sacred web of life is both liberating and inherently joyful.” You are encouraged to arrive a bit early to get settled. A Dana (donation) basket is available and a way to give back to this community. All are welcome – beginner or seasoned partitioner! Join us at 9:00-10:15am.
