LETTER: Not-So-Theoretical Questions About the Election

Here is a not so theoretical question for you: If I go to a theater and yell fire when none exists, and people are injured while evacuating the building, am I liable for the injuries?

What if I “swat” or cause bomb threats at a hospital or school and they close that hospital and school for a couple days. Am I responsible for any ramifications from those closings?

What if I own a business, say a manufacturing plant or food processing plant and my employees don’t show up to work due to fear of attack because of their nationality. Who is responsible for lost wages and lost production and thus lost income?

This theoretical question is not theoretical. Donald Trump and JD Vance spread a story about Haitian immigrants eating people’s dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio.  Vance even said to CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday 9/15 “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

“You just said that you’re creating the story,” Bash responded. Vance isn’t as concerned about the American people’s suffering as he is about he and Trump’s faltering campaign. I think being a good liar was on Vance’s resume. They don’t want media attention for the American people. They just want attention. Period. They have no shame.

I believe that Trump and Vance should be arrested for knowingly making false claims with extreme indifference of the consequences. The Governor of Ohio and Mayor of Springfield have both debunked the story. Yet Trump and Vance keep repeating it even after the bomb threats and requests for them to stop perpetuating a made-up story that is overwhelming Springfield’s resources.

Lying seems to be in the DNA of the GOP ticket, from sizes of crowds and bank accounts and apartments, universities to charities to cheating on wives. Republicans should vote for Harris and then concentrate on rebuilding the GOP, because right now the Party of Trump (POD Party) is the antithesis of the Grand Old Party of the past.
