Six years ago, when I first ran for office, it seemed like an impossible task. At the age of 32, I was running for a seat a Democrat hadn’t won in 60 years—facing a popular incumbent. And, I had never run for office before.
I’m Jena Griswold, Colorado’s Secretary of State, and I’m excited to share a bit of my journey with you.
I grew up in rural Colorado, where my family faced tough times—at times, relying on food stamps and food banks. I was the first in my family to attend a four-year college and law school.
In 2019, I became Colorado’s first elected Democratic Secretary of State since Eisenhower was President, one of the few women ever elected to statewide executive office, and the youngest Secretary of State in the nation.
Since then, I’ve been dedicated to ensuring that every eligible voter can participate in our democracy, leading efforts to make our elections more accessible and secure.
Democracy faced serious threats in 2020, and it continues to be tested. As Chair of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State, I led the fight to stop election deniers from winning secretary of state seats in battleground states around the country. We helped ensure that this upcoming Presidential election will truly be one in which the American people decide who becomes our next president.
Whether it’s protecting the right to vote, standing up for women’s rights, or fighting for common-sense gun laws and climate action, I’m committed to continuing this crucial work. And with your support, I know we can continue to make a difference.
There is so much left to do, but I’m confident that together, we can continue protecting Colorado’s gold standard elections and increasing access to the polls.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s keep fighting for our democracy and our future.
