This short message arrived yesterday morning from the Archuleta County public information office:
All offices located in the Old Courthouse, 449 San Juan Street, will temporarily be closed until further notice. These offices include the Clerk & Recorder, Treasurer, Assessor and Human Resources.
It’s my understanding that someone — possibly someone unhappy with the Department of Motor Vehicles — was overheard on the sidewalk outside the Courthouse, saying “We’re going to come back and…”
…and something.
Reportedly, another citizen heard the comment, and went inside and informed the County officials. A decision was made to immediately close the Courthouse offices, going into the long Labor Day weekend.
The County subsequently posted additional information on its website.
According to Detective Boyd Neagle of the Pagosa Springs Police Department (PSPD), at approximately 9:54am on August 29, the PSPD received a report of an unspecified threat regarding the Archuleta County building located at 449 San Juan St.
County building officials were alerted of the call and decided to close the building for the day.
The incident is under investigation and at this time, there is no verifiable threat to the building. If anyone has any information related to the threat, please contact Neagle at (970) 264-4151 or the Archuleta County Combined Dispatch Center at (970) 731-2160.
“We’re being cautious,” Neagle said.
Daily Post readers may recall that Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) staff were receiving threats a few months ago, and PAWSD started closing its gate and requiring visitors to conduct business remotely whenever possible.
From the PAWSD website:
As of March 1, 2024, the Pagosa Area Water & Sanitation District (PAWSD) office at 100 Lyn Ave will be closed to the public until further notice per guidelines set forth by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
