Are you an artist looking to deepen your connection with the Bureau of Land Management’s Canyons of the Ancients National Monument through your work? Applications for the Monument’s 2025 Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program will be accepted through August 31 for both winter and summer residencies.
The Monument, in partnership with their official Friends Group, Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance, welcomes artists of all backgrounds who wish to engage visitors in transformative art experiences. Whether you paint, sketch, compose, sculpt, take photographs, create pottery, or explore other forms of art, let the beauty of our public lands inspire your work so that it can inspire others.
The winter residency runs for two weeks ending the second Saturday in February 2025 and the summer residency runs for two weeks ending the fourth Saturday in June 2025, coinciding with the Four Corners Indigenous Art Market. The winter residency is open to all applicants, while the summer residency is open exclusively to Indigenous artists. Lodging and a professional art studio will be provided by Willowtail Springs Nature Preserve and Education Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering creativity and environmental stewardship.
To apply, artists should submit a completed application form, resume, public event proposal, and samples of their work by August 31. The selected artists will receive accommodations, financial support, marketing exposure, and special access to the Monument and curation facility.
