FARMERS MARKET: White Mountain Farm

By Olivia Gilbert

The Farmers Market, at the east end of downtown Pagosa, continues every Saturday from 9am and 1pm, until September 30.

Nestled in the heart of picturesque San Luis Valley, White Mountain Farm has cultivated its legacy for over two decades, crafting a journey from fertile fields to bustling markets that span from Taos, Alamaosa, all the way to Mexico. For more than three sun-kissed years, Juan Sebastian, vendor of White Mountain Farms, has graced the Pagosa Farmers Market, an artisan of agriculture, offering an array of vegetables untouched by chemicals or pesticides. It is a farm that resounds with a simple yet profound philosophy: food is not merely sustenance, but a treasure trove of health and community, worthy of utmost respect.

With every meticulously nurtured vegetable, Juan etches his mark upon the hearts and palates of those who partake. His passion flows as deep as the roots he tends, cultivating vegetables that flourish with authenticity and love. In a world where the background of produce can remain a mystery in grocery stores, Juan beckons a connection between the land and those who cherish its offerings. Yet, amidst this labor of love, challenges unfold. Challenges such as the slow process of growing vegetables and the hard work it takes to cultivate land and harvest for market.

Despite the hardships, the potatoes stand as testament to his craft, and he states that they’re his best seller out of all his produce. However, it is the Colorado Quinoa that claims the spotlight as the crown jewel of White Mountain Farm. Juan’s quinoa captures hearts and kitchens alike, embarking on journeys that stretch as far as the sun’s warm caress upon California’s coast.

White Mountain Farm is more than a name; it is a sanctuary where vegetables are born of passion, fueled by a love for nourishing the community, and nurtured with a farmer’s touch. Juan’s unwavering commitment transforms each seed into a symphony of flavors, reminding us that the true essence of sustenance lies not only in the soil but in the commitment to health and wellness woven by dedicated hands.

We are thrilled to announce our continued offer to SNAP card users that will be ongoing until the market’s closing day. It’s simple – when you spend $20 using your SNAP card, you will also receive an additional FREE $20 in Double-Up Bucks from Nourish Colorado.

This means you and your family can relish a delightful assortment of fresh vegetables, eggs, and baked goods without any extra cost.
