Girl-on-Girl Rock Band ‘Pussyfoot’ Plays Motel SOCO Tomorrow

Punk rock is a well-recognized music genre.

And so is soft rock.

I’m not sure if ‘soft punk rock’ is a genre, but if it were, that’s the label I would apply to ‘Pussyfoot’… the Pagosa/Durango girl-on-girl band that will be cranking up their amplifiers at Motel SOCO in downtown Pagosa Springs tomorrow evening, Saturday, June 24 from 5 to 8pm.

Lead guitarist Kirsten Andrews and lead singer Ursala Hudson met at Pagosa Springs High School, where they both had an interest in art, and in pushing societal boundaries. They’d both been home-schooled for part of their school careers (Ursala prefers the term, ‘unschooled’) and both had “unconventional parents”. Following high school they both ended up in Durango, and hooked up with boyfriends who were professional musicians — one result being, Ursala and Kirsten morphed into guitarists, singers and performers.

‘Pussyfoot’ drummer Kelli Merriman and bassist Tracy Korb met through mutual connections at Stillwater Music School in Durango, where Tracy plays in the jazz band. Kelli had played in a rock band with Kirsten back in 2010, so — with all those connections going on — you might say the band ‘Pussyfoot’ was meant to be, eventually.

The band will be opening for ‘Playing With Skunks’ at El Rancho Tavern in Durango on June 30.

Tickets are not required for the June 24 show at SOCO… but the restaurant and bar will be serving, and you are encouraged to enjoy the food and drinks.
