Saturday June 17, is the feast day of the patroness of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Lewis Street. A mass is scheduled at 2:00pm at IHM. At nominally 3:00pm, the Rivas Family Spanish Choir will provide music and perform a small concert for anyone who attends the mass and who sticks around for the posole dinner which will be provided by Las Guadalupanas at 4:30pm.
The stained-glass windows in the church, call out some of the pioneer families that participated in building the church: The Gallego’s, the Cor- dova’s, the Pomas, the Shahan’s, the Ortega’s, the Belarde’s, the Bram- well’s. The window dedicated to the Parishioner’s is where the Mestas’, the Martinez’s, the Lynches, the Trujillo’s, the Rivas’s, the Archuleta’s, the Maez’s the Lucero’s and many more including members from the mission churches, who participated in getting the church built.
The posole dinner provided by the Guadalupanas, who have served the community for the last 50 years, is as much to celebrate the feast day as it is to honor those pioneer families that helped to establish the church. The music and dinner will be an outdoor event, held under a tent in the parking lot set up by the Knights of Columbus.
Join those pioneer families on Lewis Street, who like many in this community, work towards making the Pagosa community better for all.
