School District Schedules ‘Community Meeting’ for Monday, April 10, to Address Safety Concerns

Following reports of a threat at one of our Pagosa schools, and coverage in the local media, the Archuleta School District has scheduled a ‘Community Meeting’ at the Pagosa Springs High School Auditorium on Monday, April 10 at 6pm.

The purpose of the meeting is “to increase awareness, understanding, and transparency around safety protocols and procedures currently in place and provide an opportunity to respond to community questions.”

District and Building leaders will be in attendance, along with the Pagosa Springs Police Department, Archuleta Sheriff’s Office and ASD School Board members.

For the convenience of those unable to attend in person, the meeting is scheduled to be broadcast via Zoom.

An unidentified 16-year-old male from New Mexico was arrested Sunday, following an investigation stemming from an alleged threat of violence made on social media. Superintendent Rick Holt reported, on Tuesday, that the suspect “was a student in the district but is no longer enrolled in our district.”

On Monday, April 3, an email about an unrelated incident was sent out to Pagosa Springs Middle School parents, explaining that a student had been accused of bringing a gun to school, but an investigation determined that no gun was involved and there had been no threat to student safety.
