‘Create Art and Tea’ is set to showcase photographer, Steve Chinn, and jeweler, Happy Harrington, for the ‘First Friday – Art for a Cause on Friday, September 2, from 5 – 7pm at the gallery at 1015 Main Avenue in downtown Durango.
Music will be provided by Ely Cartwright… with a portion of the proceeds from sales for the evening to benefit the La Plata Family Centers Coalition.
Steve Chinn has traveled throughout the US, Asia, Australia, Africa, Brazil and New Zealand as a ski and tennis instructor over the years. Influenced heavily by his father’s photographic skills and career, he began building his own photography portfolio and embarked to become a freelance photographer. His work has been seen in numerous publications including the Kobe Bryant story and Kevin Costner wedding for Reuters Media, USA Today, Washington Post, People, US, Ski, Skiing, Powder, Outside magazine and received accolades in Black & White fine art photography magazine. Chinn’s fine art photography consist of contemporary abstract images that convey a soft and soothing presentation with a twist of color and composition.
Happy Harrington is an accomplished architect and jewelry designer who hand crafts distinctive, one of a kind pieces of wearable art from her home in Durango, Colorado. Her background in architecture has given her a distinctive understanding of the elements of design and aesthetics. She infuses her design sensibility and creativity in to her work that melds the texture and color of beautiful natural stones with sterling silver, glass and ceramic beads into bracelets, necklaces and earrings. She has created a distinctive collection that accents one’s personality with the arrangement and combination of materials; from elegant pearls to rough cut stones, bright and bold colors to small refined detailed silver beads. Harrington finds joy in creating wearable art shows in the finished pieces she creates.
Caprice Fox, owner of Create Art and Tea began the First Fridays – Art for a Cause events as a way for the artists to support and give back to local community organizations. Friday’s show will benefit the La Plata Family Centers Coalition whose work provides education and support to families and individuals with finding assistance to resources including – but not limited to health insurance enrollment, utility assistance, or housing payments. A portion of the proceeds from artist sales for the evening will benefit the organization.
Create Art and Tea is located at 1015 Main Avenue in beautiful downtown Durango, Colorado. It hosts over 70 artists from around the region as well as a venue for special events including High Teas, art exhibitions and artist workshops.
