‘Locavore’ Menu Featured at the GGP Film Festival This Weekend

For attendees of the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) Film Festival this coming Saturday, April 16, Pagosa Baking chef and baker Kathy Keyes will feature a locavore menu for the dinner that will be served to wristband wearers.

The term ‘locavore’ was first coined on Earth Day in 2005 by a group in San Francisco. Over the years, the word and the ideology behind it has gained steam, with locavore being named Oxford’s 2007 Word of the Year. The movement promotes local eating as a way to help the planet while also eating healthier, more nutritious foods and supporting sustainable agriculture. The movement even gained traction with many grocery stores, restaurants, and schools increasing the amount of locally sourced food they offer.

The Film Festival menu will include: local greens empanada made of a mix of greens grown in Centennial Park grow domes (kale, rainbow chard, beet greens, turnip greens & shredded turnip), Greenhouse beet hummus with Mountain Mama (San Luis Valley) Ryeman Rye Crackers, Gosar Ranch Sausage Crostini on Pagosa Baking Company Local Loaf (Mountain Mama Whole Wheat and Ryeman Rye flour) and local radishes on a traditional French buttered bread slice with sea salt. The rosemary bread that will be used also features fresh rosemary from the education dome in Centennial Park as well as Rocky Mountain Milling wheat flour and the Pagosa Baking Company sourdough starter from 1996.

Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) presents its eighth Environmental Film Festival on Saturday, April 16. GGP partners with the Colorado Environmental Film Festival to bring another CEFF Caravan to Pagosa Springs. This collaboration ensures that films are highly acclaimed and fresh to the 2022 film festival circuit.

The Tennyson Event Center hosts the Environmental Film Festival with GGP from 2 to 8pm. Guests will enjoy four feature-length films and two short films.

Wristbands can be purchased at www.pagosagreen.org. Proceeds go to GGP’s operations, including educational activities and landscaping. Each $20 wristband allows a guest to come and go.
