Healthy Archuleta Invites Volunteers to Assist with Language Equity

The work of Healthy Archuleta dba FS|FE Food Coalition has engaged many new community members and partners in the past year and as we continue to deepen our reach into the community we are looking to directly involve more Spanish speakers in our work. Engaging Spanish speaking community members means leveraging their energy and curiosity, their diverse experiences, and their creativity as communicators.

Ethan Proud shares group ideas about a future garden and park space, as Ricardo Martine facilitates a community meeting for the Vista Lake Park in both English and Spanish.

Healthy Archuleta knows that language is powerful, and as we work towards creating more equitable outcomes in the food system and health system here in Archuleta County, it is essential that we commit to using language that supports those efforts. It is also critical that we have a shared vocabulary to ensure our efforts are united in both direction and understanding.

And that is where we need help!

If you, or someone you know, may be interested in supporting the work of the Food Coalition with bilingual translation and/or engagement into the Spanish speaking community, please contact us at fsfearchuleta@gmail.com or call 401-371-3227
