Howdy Archuleta.
My name is Nate Berman and I am running for county commissioner in District 1. I am in this race because I believe our local government is supposed to work for the people, and like many of you I have lost faith in the good ol’ boy gang that’s been running the show.
I want to talk to you for a moment about good leadership. A good leader understands that their role is about meeting the needs of others, while at the same time building them up. A good leader understands that every part of the whole is important, and what’s best for the whole is to encourage every part to achieve its best.
Our next community leader needs to be focused on empowering our citizens and advancing the good of the public. That means our government should be trying to make it easy for us to be good and productive citizens, to live good lives, to be free, and to pursue happiness.
When you want to start a business, there should only be as many hoops to jump through as are absolutely necessary. When you work hard to get ahead, the government should only take as much of your money as is absolutely necessary. When you want to build a home, or develop your land, or raise your children, or worship your god, the government should only ever be as involved as is absolutely necessary.
Now there is always going to be someone trying to take your liberty and tell you how to live your life, but I have plenty of experience saying “No” to bad ideas, and as county commissioner I’ll put that experience to work. I know the difference between right and wrong, a need and a want, freedom and tyranny, and I will not waiver in my principles or my resolve. That’s what integrity is all about.
If our government would put the needs the people above its own wants, our economy would grow, new businesses would open, new jobs would be created, affordable housing would be built, our communities would strengthen, and with a diverse base of local entrepreneurs we could weather any storm. Inspiring and encouraging our own residents to start their own businesses is the surest route to economic security.
We have invested great trust in our representatives. We trust them to keep our best interests in mind, to promote our prosperity, to secure our liberty, and to tax us fairly. Every day we invest in our community it’s with an expectation that we are building quality, opportunity, and security for our future, and our children’s futures. It’s the expectation that we are building a better tomorrow. And our next county commissioner should be guiding our government in a similar direction.
Our next commissioner also needs to weigh heavily the value of every dollar that they think about spending. The only money our government has is the money it takes from us, and our government should at the very least be as smart and as thrifty with that money as we would be. As an engineer and analyst I have helped more than 20 entrepreneurs build successful businesses, and big part of those successes hinged on setting a tight budget and working within that budget. Financial responsibility and a diligent attention to the numbers is key to the success of any business or project, and government is no different.
This is what good leadership looks like. This is what I bring to the board of county commissioners. Common sense, experience, and a moral compass.
I am asking you to join me in putting our people first again. Let’s make empowering our citizens the primary goal of our government. Let’s reclaim the American dream.
Ballots will be mailed out the week of June 8. Whether you are an independent or a Republican, I hope you will join me in the fight to put our government back to work for the people. Vote for me, Nate Berman. tell all your friends to vote for Nate Berman. Tell everyone you know and everyone you don’t know to vote Nate Berman for county commissioner, because together we can make a difference.
Let’s get back to work, Archuleta.
I’m Nate Berman reminding you to live free, and have courage.
