The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Durango Lodge No.507, announces the recipients of eleven local and one national Elks Lodge scholarship awards.
Patricia Pena, a Durango High School student, will receive a Colorado Elks Association Scholarship Grant. The $1,000 grant, awarded by the Durango Elks Lodge, is made possible by the Colorado Elks Association.
The following students will receive $1,000 scholarship awards from Durango Lodge #507:
- Stevi Cameron (Durango High School)
- Sage Davis (Animas High School)
- Jack Foster (Pagosa Springs High School)
- Piedra Goss (Pagosa Springs High School)
- Jaclyn Govreau (Durango High School)
- Wyllow Hildner (Animas High School)
- Diego Salinas (Bayfield High School)
- Grace Thompson (Pagosa Springs High School)
Dakota Wood, Durango High School, will receive the Fred Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 designated for a student pursuing a vocational/technical degree. Dakota will be studying nursing at Pueblo Community College next fall.
Alexandria Ashbaugh, graduating from Pagosa Springs High School, will be receiving the $1,000 Durango Elks Lodge Veteran’s Scholarship; she is well deserving as the daughter of two military parents. She will be attending the University of Northern Colorado where she will be majoring in biochemistry.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge Durango High School student Irie Sentner who was named a national semi-finalist in the Elks National Foundation’s Most Valuable Student Competition. He will receive a $4,000 scholarship to be dispersed over four years.
The scholarship committee of BPOE No. 507 congratulates all 2020 graduating seniors and invites upcoming 2021 seniors to apply online for the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest. Applications are available in the fall and open to all seniors.
