Located just one block north of the traffic light at Hwy 160, the Coyote Moon has created its own niche in Pagosa Springs. It’s as much country as it is mountain; as much bar as it is grill. And the good news is that the food is moderately priced (with regular daily specials) and better than you might guess.
There are 8 or 10 tables & booths for dining, plus a big bar and a small dance floor and a pool table room in the back. The atmosphere is casual and rustic, the kind of place that you can take your family or maybe just hang out and have a couple beers or drinks with friends. The kitchen is open until 11 (a rarity here), but it may get a little noisy by then as the beer and specialty drinks keep flowing and the TVs broadcast sports.
Several pages of menu offer a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, finger foods, and even several kid’s items. My personal favorites are the 1/3 pound Coyote Burger and the Chicken (or Beef) Fajita Wrap. Most items are in the $8 range. Salads include the Mango Chipotle Chicken Salad and the Jalopeno Beef Tip Caesar Salad. I don’t even like salads, but they sound good. They also have desserts.
Live music on Fridays at 9pm and sometimes on Saturdays. I’d have the kids and grandparents home by then, as it can get a little lively later in the evening – on any night. Happy hour 3-7.
Friendly staff. Clientele is mostly locals, many of them “regulars”, and typically some folks who got a recommendation at their nearby hotel.
