Chamber Seeking ‘2017 Community Award’ Nominations

The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Community Awards program is open to receive nominations in the following categories: Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Small Business of the Year and Non-Profit of the Year.

Every year stellar candidates and businesses are nominated in these various categories. The winners will be announced at the annual Chamber of Commerce Gala which will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Pagosa Lakes clubhouse.

Community Award forms are due at the Chamber by the close of business Friday, January 5.

Throughout the year we think of people that we should nominate for these awards. Then when the time draws near, do we take the time to recognize these people? Do you know someone that has made a difference in this community? We all do – and now is your opportunity to nominate them.

For both Citizen and Volunteer of the Year, the person or persons must have been a resident for at least 3 years. The work that Volunteer and Citizen of the Year nominees perform must be outside of their normal scope of work or job and the nominees can be an individual or a couple. The Citizen of the Year must have impacted the community in one of the following ways: Philanthropic, Lifestyle, Economic or Cultural. Small Business award nominees must have a reputation of quality service and employee care, demonstrate excellence and a reputable business image, consistent and friendly attitude to customers, clients, employees and other businesses, supports the local community with goods, services and time, have under 20 employees and be a leader in the business community. The Non-Profit agency of the year must be a 501 (c)3, provide a necessary service, have a positive image in the community and serve the community with distinction and excellence.

It is often hard to take the time to sit down, write and submit something about a person or business. But because you performed this effort, the recipients are often more grateful because someone actually did take the time to thank them for the “work” they do in their community. Please take time this year to say thank you to a person, couple or organization. Forms are located online on the Chamber website.

We can also email or fax you a form — or stop by the Chamber to pick one up.
