LETTER: School Board to Provide Facilities Information on Nov. 16

On behalf of the Archuleta School District Board of Directors, I would like to acknowledge the individuals who have served on the Planning Advisory Team (PAT) and thank them for their commitment and hard work. The purpose of the PAT is to develop a facility master plan to present to the school board for approval. The plan will serve as a guiding document for the near and mid-term improvement of district facilities.

The PAT has been meeting regularly since April of this year. Attendance has been consistent, and the work done has been critical, focused, and thorough. The PAT has developed several scenarios that represent potential master plans for facilities and that cover a varying scope of different levels of financial commitment. The PAT will now seek to get as much community input as possible regarding the different scenarios before making a recommendation to the board.

To this end, the school board has scheduled two community meetings for Thursday, November 16, at the Ross Aragon Community Center. The first meeting will be held at noon; the second meeting is scheduled for 6pm.

The purpose of this meeting is for the board to provide an update of the timeline for the facilities master plan recommendation, explain the process for pursuing a BEST grant for facilities, and hand out materials related to the different scenarios for community members to analyze. Community members will then have the opportunity to provide informed and specific feedback at a later community meeting.
