Charter School Officially Announces School Director Finalist… Again

Following what appeared to be a vote to hire noted educator James Lewicki as the School Director for the new Pagosa Peak Open School here in Archuleta County, the school’s board of directors were made aware, through an article in the weekly Pagosa Springs SUN, that the Colorado Open Meetings Law required an announcement of “finalists” for any public Chief Executive Officer position, to allow the public 14 days to comment on the finalist selection.

The Pagosa Peaks board thus voted, at their April 9 public meeting, to formally announce Mr. Lewicki as the finalist for the School Director position, and wait the required 14 days before signing an employment contract.

The previous vote had not specifically allowed for a 14 day waiting period.

Mr. Lewicki has been serving as a consultant to the Project-Based Learning school, for the past month.

Pagosa Peak Open School is also recruiting teachers, assistant teachers, part-time Spanish and art teachers, and an office manager. For more information about those positions, please visit the school website, PagosaPeakOpenSchool.org.

The board of directors is additionally inviting letters of interest from community volunteers interested in serving on the board. There are currently two vacant seats available for new board members. For more information, please contact Board President Ursala Hudson, 970-946-6204.
