Community Foundation Offering Workshops for Non-profits

The Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado is pleased to announce four April workshops aimed at non-profit organizations.  These four upcoming workshops will take place in Durango, and will offer nonprofits professional development opportunities to develop sustainable strategies.

Wednesday, April 12
Cara Lawrence of Tierney Lawrence in Denver will share her knowledge at “501(c)(3) Do’s and Don’ts,” a brown bag lunch at the Community Rec Center in Durango from 12pm to 1:30pm. Lawrence, who represents nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations in all aspects of their operation and management, will be discussing what nonprofits can and cannot do regarding politics, advocacy, grassroots organizing and the law. All nonprofit board and staff are welcome to attend.

Monday, April 24
Due to overwhelming requests from local nonprofits, Colorado Nonprofit Association (CNA) is hosting Happy Hour with a Cause from 4:30pm to 6pm at Carver Brewing Company in Durango. Nonprofit board and staff are encouraged to come discuss strategies for successful advocacy with Renny Fagan, current executive director of CNA and former member of the legislature, Governor’s cabinet and U.S. Senator’s staff.

Tuesday, April 25
The Colorado Nonprofit Association (CNA) is offering a one-day nonprofit summit at the Community Rec Center in Durango on Tuesday, April 25 from 9am to 4pm. Nonprofits will learn how to enhance advocacy goals, governing relationships and strategic plans. More information and registration can be found on both the Community Foundation and Colorado Nonprofit Association’s websites. Registration is $20 for members of CNA and $80 for nonmembers. Lunch is included.

Friday, April 28
Registration has opened for Financial Literacy, a professional development opportunity for nonprofit professionals in southwest Colorado. Financial Literacy is designed to increase the comfort level of nonprofit board and staff in managing finances and will bring dynamic, professional speakers to the Durango Public Library for workshops on topics regarding financial reports, the value of the 990, nonprofit taxation and the auditing process.

The event will be held on Friday, April 28 from 9am to 4pm.

This workshop will be packed with financial expertise featuring local CPAs, as well as the Grants Program Director from Boettcher Foundation.Registration is $60 and includes lunch. Financial Literacy has been planned by the Community Foundation and the Southwest Rural Philanthropy Days (SW RPD) Interim Committee, a joint effort of local nonprofit leadership focused on continuing professional development to build a stronger nonprofit community.
